Frequently Asked Questions about Performance Testing 

 

Where is the testing done?

All testing is done at the Health Motion Clinic in Kentwood. Click here for a map of our location.

 

How long does a test take?

A Performance Test takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on the individual and whether they have opted
to upgrade the test to VO2 Max.
 

Do I get a printout of my test?

Yes.  Each client receives a write up explaining the test results, a copy of the test results and any additional notes from the technician regarding recommendations or observations.
 

When can I schedule a test?

Testing times are available between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday?  Keep in mind the protocols for the test listed out in the next question when selecting a date for your test.
 

Are there any requirements or protocols for the test?

 Please remember to strictly adhere to the following test protocols.
1)  No strenuous activity for 24hours prior to the test.  Take the day before off training so you are fully rested.  Do not show up fatigued.
2)  No food or drink, except water, for 3 hours prior to the test.  We want your stomach empty of everything but water prior to the test.

Can I share my Metabolic Testing Kit Mask with my wife?

For hygienic reason masks should not be shared. The Performance and Training Labs policy is to allow a husband and wife to share a mask but, masks are not allowed to be shared by members outside of the immediate family and all clients are urged to own and use their own mask.
 

Do you provide Training recommendations?

After your test your technician will go over the results and discuss what training focuses will have the biggest impact on your performance as part of your post test consultation.  If you would like a an exact training plan we do offer this service seperatly from testing.
 

Do you provide full training plans?

Yes we can design a customized 8 - 12 week training plan based on your testing results. For more information see our Training and Fueling Plans page.
 

Do you provide fueling plans for endurance athletes?

Yes we can design a customized fueling plan based on your testing results. For more information see our Fueling Plans page.
 
 

What if I have a heart condition?

For clients with heart or other medical conditions we require a signed physician consent form. Contact the Performance and Training Lab for more information and a copy of this form.
 
 

What if I have asthma?

For clients with asthma, sports induce asthma or sever allergies we ask that you bring your inhalers with you and depending on the circumstances we may also require a signed physician consent form.  Contact the Performance and Training Lab for more information and a copy of this form.
 
 

Can you test swimmers?

We currently do not have the facilities to test swimmers. However, if you can locate and obtain the use of a continuous flow trainer (Endless Pool) we would be willing to work with you to test your swimming performance. For more information contact the Performance and Training Lab.
 
 

Can you test rowers, skaters or other sports?

Our facilities currently support the testing of runners and cyclists. However, if you can create a stationary set up for exercise such as a stationary rower for rowing we would be willing to work with you to test your swimming performance.  For more information contact the Performance and Training Lab.
