The Health Motion Performance and Training Lab is a division of Health Motion Physical Therapy Services.

Health Motion Physical Therapy has been delivering physical therapy services in Grand Rapids, Michigan for more than 16 years.  Our unique approach to manual physical therapy has resulted in a well deserved reputation for assisting people to recover from their injuries and achieve greater physical function in their life.

As experts in the physical function of the body we began to investigate additional services to offer the many athletes we worked with. Our search uncovered some excellent science out there that delivered great results.  There was also, for lack of a better term, a whole lot of snake oil for sale.  So how did we separate the applicable science from snake oil?

That was an easy one for us to answer, as it is the same test we apply to our physical therapy.  RESULTS!  Did the science or training result in improved performance?

This is the ultimate test and starting point for consideration by The Lab.  If it doesn’t improve performance, we aren’t interested in it.

This belief is so fundamental to the Performance and Training Lab we have even incorporated this basic test into our name to continually remind ourselves of the business we are in, improving performance.

Once past this basic test we evaluate it against other workable training methods based on:
1) Can it consistently show results when applied to a wide variety of athletes?
2) How big is the performance gain?
3) How much time and effort is required to achieve the performance gain?

After months of investigation we selected services that delivered fantastic results and opened our doors to the general public in 2007.

Since that time we have further perfected our current services and continued to research and develop new services that improve performance.  We research, test and isolate the sports science that achieves performance results so that we can help improve your training and performance.

I encourage you to browse through a few of our client’s success stories to see for yourself what impact our results based approach can have on athletic performance.
